From WarGames to Russian Chain matches, WCW had a knack for creating match types that defied the traditional norms of professional wrestling. Although some may argue that these matches were nonsensical or even "dumb", they often added a level of excitement and unpredictability to wrestling.

It was also an example of WCW taking big chances, which the company often did. This list will examine 10 bizarre WCW matches that were dumb, but also entertaining.
10 Doomsday Cage Match - Uncensored 1996
The Doomsday Cage match is a multi-level match where Hulk Hogan and Macho Man run a gauntlet of opponents. The match devolves into a chaotic tag team match with various wrestlers entering and leaving the cage. It was a ridiculous match that made no sense and had no logic. Fans who watch this match back will either scratch their heads or enjoy a strange match that defies logic so much that it can't help but be a great hot mess at points.
9 Thundercage Match - SuperBrawl IV
The Thundercage Match was a Hell in a Cell but with higher walls. The match featured an all-star cast as Sting, Brian Pillman, and Dustin Rhodes defeated Steve Austin, Rick Rude, and Paul Orndorff. This match was insanely over the top. The crowd could not get enough of this action. It trumped most Wargames matches in terms of story. It didn't need to take place in a Thundercage, but the bizarre stipulation helped put this match over the top in the best way possible.
8 King Of The Road - Uncensored 1995
The King of the Road match was a wrestling match in WCW that took place in the back of an 18-wheeler trailer surrounded by a fence and filled with bales of hay. The objective was to sound the bullhorn attached to the front of the trailer. The two wrestlers, Dustin Rhodes and Blacktop Bully (Barry Darsow) competed in the match, with Rhodes almost ringing the horn, but Bully gave him a low blow and they both fell.

The match was filled with high comedy and over-the-top stunts, including Rhodes getting piledriven in the back of the truck and Bully being thrown over a mini-gate. Bully eventually won by ringing the horn. The match was entertaining due to its sheer oddity. Rhodes famously got fired for blading in the match.
7 Tower Of Doom Match - The Great American Bash (1988)
The Tower of Doom involved three cages stacked on top of each other, with the winner being the first team to exit the cage, which was padlocked. It was a bizarre stipulation that turned wrestlers into lab rats. This match started with Ron Garvin and Ivan Koloff fighting their way down to the bottom of the cages. Dr. Death, Al Perez, and Road Warrior Hawk were some of the participants in the match.
The final round was between Jimmy Garvin and Kevin Sullivan, with Garvin ultimately winning. However, Sullivan locked himself and Precious in the cage and attacked her, leading to Road Warrior Hawk saving her. The match was a piece of the Sullivan/Garvin/Precious storyline and was entertaining, though it had more drama than actual wrestling.
6 Chamber of Horrors Match - Halloween Havoc (1991)
The Chamber of Horrors Match was a 4 vs 4 Cage Match with no tags. The goal is to electrocute a member of the opposing team by putting them in a chair and pulling a switch. It's one of the most bizarre matches to ever take place at WCW. The match had a camera on the referee's head.
Sting and Cactus had some fun interactions outside. Rick came closest to being electrocuted, but he turned it around on Abdullah who was eventually electrocuted. The stipulation of electrocution was considered goofy, but the match itself was not as bad as expected, but it was hard to follow.
5 Four Corners Match - Spring Stampede (1997)
The match is a Fatal-Four-Way under tag team rules where the first wrestler to win a victory will get a shot at the WCW Heavyweight Title. Yes, the wrestlers had to "tag in" to possibly win the match. Stevie Ray replaced Hogan and the four participants were Harlem Heat, The Giant, and Lex Luger.

The match starts with Luger and Booker T. After an 18-minute match, Luger wins by submitting Stevie Ray earning a shot at the WCW Heavyweight Title.
4 Lifeguard Match - Bash At The Beach (1995)
The "Lifeguard Match" between Macho Man Randy Savage and Ric Flair is a Lumberjack Match with wrestlers dressed as "lifeguards." The match starts with Savage and Flair trading punches and chops. Flair works on Savage's leg, but Savage counters into a Figure Four and retakes control of the match.
Arn Anderson, who is one of the lifeguards, interferes and gives Savage a DDT, but Flair only gets a two count. The match continues with both men fighting back and forth until Savage wins with a flying axehandle and the flying elbow. It was one of the best matches on the card despite the bizarre stipulation.
3 Coal Miner’s Glove - Halloween Havoc (1992)
The Coal Miner's Glove match often struggles, because wrestlers do not sell the concept that the glove can be used as a weapon stronger than fire. Jake "The Snake" Roberts and Sting did their best in this bout. Cactus Jack interfered and gave Jake his "cobra" and snake-handler glove, while Sting grabbed the Coal Miner's Glove and hit Jake with it, causing the snake to bite Jake instead. It's a crazy sequence in an otherwise bad match. Sting got the pin in Jake's last appearance on a WCW PPV.
2 Raven's Rules Match - Spring Stampede (1998)
A Raven's Rules Match was essentially a hardcore match against Rave. In the match at Spring Stampede 1998, Raven and Diamond Dallas Page competed for the WCW United States Title. The match starts with Sick Boy attacking Page, but Page quickly fought back setting the intensity.
Page hit Raven with a trash can and a table, while Raven choked Page with a bull rope. The match goes back and forth with various wrestlers interfering and getting involved. Raven won the bizarre match, which was strange, but also a decently entertaining watch due to the hardcore nature.
1 Sumo Monster Truck Match - Halloween Havoc (1995)
Hulk Hogan and The Giant had a Sumo Monster Truck Match at Halloween Havoc (1995) where they had to push each other's truck past the circle to win. The trucks were welded together and "ran on alcohol," putting the competitors at risk of explosion.
The match was mostly back-and-forth pushing between the truck and the commentary team kept mentioning the danger of explosions and falls. Hogan ultimately pushed the Giant outside the circle and the two brawled on the roof, ending with Hogan pushing the Giant off the roof. It was very dumb, but also decently entertaining.
