WWE saw a lot of developments in 2022, with a change in regime which has seen frustrating old habits leave with Vince McMahon, and a fresh taste coming in with the creative control of Triple H. That doesn’t mean that fans don’t want more though, and there are a lot of hopes for more improvement.

When looking to the future and to 2023, there are certainly some things that fans want to see, from dream matches to new champions to strong booking and storytelling. Of course, not all of these will come true, but fans can still be optimistic that some of these things will become a reality over the next 12 months.

10 Bron Breakker Main Roster Call Up

Bron Breakker may still be very new to the professional wrestling business, but it doesn’t mean that he isn’t more than ready for the main roster. After dominating NXT as their champion for nearly a year, it is high time that Raw and SmackDown sees the emergence of a fresh face.

Although a lot of new names are being signed to WWE, Breakker is someone completely different and new to many in the WWE Universe, so he could be more effective than those who have returned. He can be built from the ground up to be a star.

9 Brand Split And Draft

Raw and SmackDown do currently have their own rosters, but the current brand split isn’t overly strict, with superstars often crossing the border of Raw and SmackDown whenever they please.

In 2023, WWE should split both the World and Tag Titles and have another brand split after doing so. This should be a direct cut between both shows where there is no crossing the divide, and should perhaps also include exclusive PPVs. In 2016, this provided a lot of very fun television and a unique feeling when tuning into both, and WWE is missing that.

8 Opening The Forbidden Door

WWE NJPW

WWE have steered clear of other promotions for the longest of times, but in 2023 it will see Karl Anderson compete in NJPW and Shinsuke Nakamura compete in NOAH.

WWE should continue to allow their superstars to compete elsewhere and further open the Forbidden Door, putting their hand in different markets. As the main figurehead in professional wrestling, opening their doors can only do good for the rest of the wrestling world.

7 Great Retirement Year For Edge

Edge WWE 1

Edge has hinted that 2023 may be the year he decides to step away from the ring, ending his career on his own terms. When looking at the roster, there isn’t a whole lot of people who he still needs to face in major dream matches.

However, WWE should ensure that this year sees him wrestle the likes of Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Drew McIntyre, and anyone he wishes to face before bowing out in a satisfying way. The boat has perhaps been missed on one more World Title run, but WWE can still book a story which sees his career end in an effective manner.

6 Sami Zayn Super Babyface Push

Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn is the most over act in WWE today. All signs point towards him winning the Tag Team Titles alongside Kevin Owens at WrestleMania, but things shouldn’t stop there, as his push should continue with a feud against Roman Reigns, and a huge underdog babyface main event run.

Seeing Zayn as a World Champion no longer feels out of the realm of possibility, and WWE should capitalize on his natural popularity with a major title victory in 2023.

5 Feud Between Rhea Ripley And Bianca Belair

Although the temptation to book Charlotte Flair in the World Title picture upon her return will be there, WWE should resist that for WrestleMania season, and instead book Rhea Ripley vs Bianca Belair.

Not just that, but the pair should have several matches in a feud which could end up being legendary. These two women are not just the future, they are the present, and 2023 should write a huge chapter in their rivalry.

4 Gunther Remains Undefeated For A Long Time

Gunther has World Title potential, but that would possibly mean losing the Intercontinental Title. Even though he is rumored for a match at WrestleMania with Brock Lesnar, per WrestlingNews.Co, WWE should keep the gold on him and keep him undefeated on the main roster.

If he were to hold the IC belt amongst a World Title push, it would further add prestige to the midcard title. WWE should hold off for as long as possible before Gunther gets pinned or submitted on the main roster.

3 Dominik Mysterio Retires Rey Mysterio

Dominik Rey Mysterio

The stage is set for Dominik and Rey Mysterio to do battle at some point. Whether that be at WrestleMania or SummerSlam, Dominik should defeat his father in 2023. As a heel, he has shown a whole new side to him which has given many hope that he has a future in the business, and a win over his father will propel him further.

Rey Mysterio still has a lot to give, but retiring at the top of his game is something he should do to protect his legacy and body, especially if it means putting over his son in a retirement match.

2 Resilience To Keep Vince McMahon Out

Recent reports have suggested that Vince McMahon is wanting back into WWE. Those in power right now need to do everything they can to ensure that he remains out though.

Of course, McMahon is the majority shareholder, so to some extent it will be out of other people’s hands, but either way, his advisors, family, and others, need to keep him away from WWE, as it has shown signs of improvement across the board in his absence.

1 Cody Rhodes As WWE Champion

Cody Rhodes WrestleMania 38

Before his injury, Cody Rhodes looked set for a journey to a World Title. With him primed to return in 2023, he should return to that road and be crowned as WWE Champion.

Whether that be at WrestleMania or somewhere else down the road, he has the most perfect babyface story to be explored over the next year. Fans want to see him win the big one, and this is the year to do it.
