The Shield is one of the most successful factions of the modern era, and the group dominated WWE during their tenure. It helped create three main event players in Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and The Shield, all of which went on to have brilliant careers away from this group.RELATED: The Shield's 10 Best Matches, According To Cagematch.netFans look back upon the Hounds Of Justice in a positive light, mainly because they were so well booked. But that doesn't mean there aren't elements of this faction that the company would rather fans forget about. Whether it be storylines or booking decisions, there are situations that WWE does not want its audience to think of when it comes to The Shield.
10 Originally Protecting CM Punk
When The Shield were originally brought in as a faction, it was done to protect CM Punk and his WWE Championship reign. This is why they interfered in the WWE Championship match in their Survivor Series debut, attacking everyone that wasn't Punk.
But that isn't something that WWE mentions, and to their credit, the group wasn't associated with him for very long. With the bad blood between Punk and WWE, the company would likely prefer that everyone forgot this was the original reason for them being introduced.
9 Roman Reigns Wasn't In The Plans
Because this group was all about protecting CM Punk, the company spoke with him about which three wrestlers he wanted to pluck from developmental to be involved. While Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins were chosen by Punk, the same cannot be said for Roman Reigns.

He originally asked for Kassius Ohno to be involved in the faction, which makes sense considering the independent background that he had. Ohno was more similar to the rest of the group, but WWE wanted Roman in this faction, which was the right call.
8 Losing Their First Match On SmackDown
WWE had The Shield dominate everybody during their run, and that helped to make them feared by other talents. This is one of the reasons audiences took them seriously, but it was inevitable that they would lose eventually. Most fans presumed that would be a big PPV moment to put over another team.
However, that wasn't the case, and their first defeat happened randomly on an episode of SmackDown. While Team Hell No and Randy Orton were formidable opponents to lose against, WWE won't want this situation brought up.
7 No World Titles
When people look back at the greatest factions of all time, someone in the group typically gets to hold the World Title while they're involved. However, that wasn't the case with The Shield, as none of the members managed to win the big one while being part of the group during their main run.
Of course, all three men have held the top title after The Shield broke up, when it comes to what they originally did together, that title escaped them. Instead, they just held the Tag Team Titles, as well as the United States Championship.
6 WWE Wanted Them To Have A Shield
The Shield's look evolved, thankfully ditching the dreadful jumpers that they debuted in. However, while they were able to look cool, the company wanted to add a terrible prop to them, which would have seen the trio have literal shields to carry and use.
Thankfully, that didn't end up happening, which was the right call considering how over the top, and ridiculous they would have looked. Because they weren't used, WWE would certainly want fans to forget that they ever thought of this idea in the first place.
5 Injuring The Undertaker
Getting to work with The Undertaker was a huge honor for The Shield, because they were young wrestlers on the rise. However, the planned feud against the Brothers Of Destruction didn't end up happening, despite the angle being shot for it.

The trio powerbombed the Deadman through the announce table, which was supposed to get the build started. Unfortunately, The Undertaker was legitimately injured here, which ended everything straight away.
4 New Members Joined For The Night
The Shield is known for just three wrestlers, and that is what made them click as a team. However, there was a period when Roman Reigns had suffered from a viral outbreak within the company. This meant he was missing, and the company decided to replace him.
On PPV, it was Kurt Angle who got the role, while at some live events it ended up being Triple H. Neither man truly fit in or felt like they belonged, and the visual of them in this faction never quite worked out.
3 Dean Ambrose As United States Champion
Dean Ambrose winning the United States Championship while he was in The Shield early on in his WWE career seemed like a good idea. But the problem was that he barely ever defended the title, which left things feeling flat. It wasn't a great period for the title, even though Ambrose was in a featured group.
There was no reason for the audience to care about the title, because Dean was always working in six-man tag team matches, rather than putting the title on the line. It became more of a prop in this period, which WWE will gloss over.
2 CM Punk Beat Them All
The Shield dominated everyone that WWE put in front of them, and that is something that helped to make the group so popular. This is what fans remember about them, and that is what the company will want to carry on, rather than recalling the 2013 TLC PPV.

That show saw them compete against CM Punk in a three-on-one handicap match, and despite having an obvious numbers advantage, The Shield lost. It was an embarrassing defeat that didn't help their status, which is why WWE would like audiences to forget it happened.
1 No Great WrestleMania Match
The Shield got the chance to compete at WrestleMania as a unit twice, once in 2013, and then again a year later. Both of those matches were six-man tags, but neither of them were any good. Despite the talent that they had, and the brilliant matches they did put together, this was not one of them.
They defeated a team of New Age Outlaws and Kane, and then picked up a victory against Sheamus, Big Show, and Randy Orton. It is something that the faction is missing, as there were plenty of options that they could have done instead.
