Wrestlers sharing titles seems like it is a rare occurrence. However, it has happened more often than you think.
Professional wrestling companies have had various storylines where they have allowed two or more wrestlers to share a championship. The Fabulous Freebirds were a legendary trio and won multiple Tag Team Titles, but they were allowed to have any two of the duo defend the title under "The Freebird Rule."

However, it's not just tag team titles that have been shared amongst factions, several singles championships have been defended amongst a duo which makes things more interesting. Moreover, there have been co-champions who couldn't co-exist but held the title together until there was a match to have one definitive holder of the gold.
10 The Revival (24/7 Championship)
The WWE 24/7 Championship is one of the most comedic titles in WWE history. The title is a newer iteration of the Hardcore Championship, which was a prominent title in the Attitude Era, and unpredictable as the championship could be defended at any time.
The Revival made history as the only co-champions of the title when they pinned R-Truth on the August 12th, 2019, edition of Monday Night Raw. Truth was escaping from various wrestlers but interrupted an impromptu match between The Revival and The Lucha House Party. Ultimately, their reign was one of the shortest 24/7 Championship reigns in history with R-Truth getting his baby back by capitalizing on Kalisto attacking The Revival.
9 The Spirit Squad (World Tag Team Championship)
The Spirit Squad ultimately did The McMahons' dirty work and they were rewarded with a World Tag Team Championship shot on the Raw after WrestleMania 22 in 2006. The Spirit Squad upset the formidable duo of Kane and Big Show to become the new World Tag Team Champions.
Alas, Kenny, Johnny, Mitch, Nicky, and Mikey were all recognized as World Tag Team Champions under the Freebird Rule. Their title reign lasted a remarkable 216 days and Dolph Ziggler, who portrayed Nicky, would go on to have the most successful career out of the faction in WWE.
8 Chris Jericho & Chyna (Intercontinental Championship)
Chyna was one of Chris Jericho's first major rivals in the early stint in his WWE career. Jericho failed to capture the Intercontinental Title from Chyna at the 1999 Survivor Series, but he did not make the same mistake twice by ending Chyna's reign at Armageddon for his first of a record nine Intercontinental Championships.
However, Chyna and Jericho had a double pin on the December 30, 1999, edition of SmackDown with no clear-cut winner. Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley announced that both Chyna and Jericho would be co-holders of the Intercontinental Championship. It was entertaining as one of them would be on commentary when the other would defend the title. Chyna would send The Kat to collect the title, and vice versa, Jericho would take the championship away from Chyna. Ultimately, Jericho became the undisputed Intercontinental Champion at the 2000 Royal Rumble when he defeated both Chyna and Hardcore Holly in a triple threat match.
7 LayCool (Women's Championship & Divas Championship)
Michelle McCool and Layla, collectively known as LayCool, dominated SmackDown as an entertaining heel duo. Layla defeated Beth Phoenix in May 2010 to become the first British-born WWE Women's Champion. Layla and McCool became co-Women's Champions although McCool was never recognized as champion. However, SmackDown General Manager Teddy Long dropped a bombshell by announcing that only one of them could defend the title.

Nevertheless, they were snatching the Women's Championship from one another, and the title comically split in half. Moreover, at Night of Champions 2010, McCool defended the Women's Championship on Layla's behalf and she defeated Divas Champion Melina to unify the two titles. Whilst Layla was not recognized as Divas Champion, McCool was recognized as a two-time Divas Champion, but the two continued to defend the title with both having a separate championship belt.
6 The Jersey Triad (WCW Tag Team Championship)
The summer of 1999 in WCW saw Diamond Dallas Page, Chris Kanyon, and Bam Bam Bigelow in possession of the WCW World Tag Team Championship. The trio was known as The Jersey Triad, although Kanyon hailed from New York, which is a neighboring state of New Jersey.
Kanyon sided with DDP and Bigelow on the June 7, 1999, edition of Nitro by betraying Perry Saturn. The trio captured the WCW Tag Team Championship twice, and during one title defense, The Jersey Triad utilized the Freebird Rule to full effect by having all three members defending the title at once, with one man having to be on the outside.
5 The Wyatt Family (SmackDown Tag Team Championship)
In the 2016 WWE Draft Lottery, Bray Wyatt was drafted to SmackDown and, by the fall of 2016, the latest incarnation of The Wyatt Family saw Wyatt, Luke Harper, and Randy Orton form an unlikely but successful alliance.
AT TLC, Wyatt and Orton defeated Health Slater and Rhyno to become the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions. It was a hallmark moment for Wyatt as it was his first championship reign on the main roster. Moreover, Harper was also able to defend the championship under the Freebird Rule. The group held the gold for three weeks but dropped the titles to American Alpha. Orton and Wyatt shortly began a feud in early 2017 which culminated with Orton capturing the WWE Championship from Wyatt at WrestleMania 33.
4 Edge & Mick Foley (Hardcore Championship)
Rob Van Dam unified the Hardcore Championship into his Intercontinental Championship in August 2002 and the Hardcore Title was barely mentioned. However, Mick Foley and Edge tore the house down in a brutal Hardcore match at WrestleMania 22, and the two had a newfound respect for each other. In 2006, they announced themselves as co-Hardcore Champions.

The Hardcore Championship reign was not recognized but Edge carried the title with him at ECW One Night Stand 2006 in his upcoming clash alongside Foley and Lita against Tommy Dreamer, Terry Funk, and Beaulah McGillicutty. The angle was soon dropped once Edge refocused on regaining the WWE Championship, and Foley turned his attention to his feud with Ric Flair.
3 Demolition (WWF Tag Team Championship)
The first iteration of Demolition, comprised of Ax and Smash, is arguably the greatest WWE Tag Team Champions not to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Ax and Smash were one of the most polarizing tag teams in the late 80s and early 90s and were the longest-reigning Tag Team Champions in history until New Day broke their record in 2016.
However, Crush was added to the group as Ax was not in peak physical condition as he suffered a serious health scare when he had shellfish. Ax was relegated to a managerial role, but the trio was able to defend the title under the Freebird Rule. Once they dropped the titles at SummerSlam 1990 to The Hart Foundation, Demolition's popularity began to drop with The Road Warriors joining WWE.
2 Wolfpac (WCW Tag Team Championship)
Real-life good friends Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, and Sean Waltman, known as Syxx in WCW, held the WCW World Tag Team Championship under the Freebird Rule. Syxx was credited with a reign as champion as Nash sustained an injury.
Hall and Nash were six-time WCW Tag Team Champions which is a phenomenal achievement considering both men are known for their exploits as singles stars. The Freebird Rule was known as the "Wolfpac Rules" during their brief reign as champions as a threesome.
1 The New Day (WWE/Raw/SmackDown Tag Team Championship)
When you think about all-time great WWE Tag Team Champions, The New Day often comes to mind. The combination of Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Big E saw them run roughshod on both Raw and SmackDown.
The New Day are 10-time Tag Team Champions with seven SmackDown Tag Team Championship reigns and three Raw Tag Team Championship reigns. They utilized the Freebird Rule to perfection with any two of the trio defending the title although Kofi was mostly defending the title since he was the best in-ring performer of the group. Their second WWE Tag Team Championship reign was a historical one as they broke Demolition's record to become the longest-reigning Tag Team Champions in WWE history with an extraordinary 483-day reign. The entertaining trio has gone their separate ways with Big E on SmackDown, but they left behind a great legacy with the gold.
