It’s a rare occurrence when WWE wrestlers go off-script on television. Numerous names have done exactly this in the past, but they were done during a time when wrestlers had more creative freedom as compared to today.

If a wrestler breaks the script now, they will most likely get backstage heat on them. In some cases, WWE will even punish that wrestler unless it’s one of the top stars. Just in the past few months and years, several wrestlers went off the script and some of these made some interesting segments.
7 Brock Lesnar Couldn’t Control His Laughter
Brock Lesnar is one of the wrestlers who always stays in character. WWE fans have rarely seen him laugh on television (excluding his recent return). But R-Truth was one of the only few people who made Lesnar break his character and laugh uncontrollably.

Right before Royal Rumble 2020, R-Truth interrupted Lesnar and Paul Heyman to declare himself in the Rumble match. Upon learning that Heyman wasn’t going to participate in the battle royal, Truth then undeclared himself from the match. This segment was so funny, it made Lesnar crack up (which is probably one of the rarest things to happen in WWE). But this wasn't the first time R-Truth made someone break character.
6 Riddle Forgets His Lines
Earlier this year, Riddle had a segment with Asuka backstage where he discussed scooters in Japan. The segment ended awkwardly when Riddle suddenly walked away without finishing his line. Later, it turned out The Original Bro had actually forgotten his line and he wasn’t supposed to just walk away like that.
When people backstage saw the segment, they thought it was better than the script and kept the segment as it was for television. They were right because the fans also liked this segment because it fit Riddle's gimmick so well.
5 Charlotte Flair Drops The Raw Women's Title
A month ago, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair had a title exchange on SmackDown. But Flair went off-script during this segment and dropped the red brand's belt. She claimed it was an accident but most people don’t believe her. Reportedly, The Queen even had backstage heat for this. WWE also removed this part of the segment from SmackDown’s replay.

Even though people were mad at Charlotte over her actions, she didn't receive any punishments for her actions. She’s one of the top women wrestlers, so she easily got away with this situation.
4 Nia Jax & Charlotte Gets Into A Shoot Fight
Some months ago, Nia Jax (who has now been released by WWE) faced Charlotte Flair in a singles match on Raw. During this bout, both wrestlers went off-script and everyone who watched their fight noticed that. Jax almost injured Charlotte’s neck, and then both wrestlers exchanged some brutal shots.
According to a report, Jax didn’t receive any sort of backstage heat in the locker room. Many wrestlers backed her up for standing up to The Queen, who seems to be everyone’s enemy backstage.
3 Ric Flair Went Off-Script During Ric Flair Promo
Ric Flair and Randy Orton formed an alliance back in 2020. Although this partnership didn’t last for long because The Viper turned on Flair, just like he did with countless other wrestlers in the past. The Nature Boy even cut a short promo before Orton punted his mentor.
Flair and Orton both later revealed that Ric went off-script during this segment. He was supposed to remain silent before the attack, but he cut an unscripted promo which WWE thought was good so they kept it.
2 Big Cass Beats A Little Person Dressed Up As Daniel Bryan
Once Big Cass feuded with Daniel Bryan. During a segment, he brought a little person who was dressed up as Daniel Bryan to the ring. Cass went off-script during this segment and tried to improvise it. It got him a ton of heat backstage, which eventually led to his release from the company as well.
Cass later regretted doing this and said, "It was a mistake. It was a dumb decision on my part. So stupid. It was probably the worst decision I ever made." He would later join Impact Wrestling but his contract reportedly expired this November.
1 Edge Went Off-Script During Royal Rumble 2020
Edge shocked the wrestling world back in 2020 with his in-ring return at Royal Rumble. The Rated R Superstar had retired from wrestling a decade prior and most people never expected him to make a comeback again. During this match, Edge hit AJ Styles with a Spear which injured the latter. This led to Styles’ early elimination from the match. The Phenomenal One later told fans that Edge didn’t injure him and took the blame for this botch.
This is also a huge dream match for wrestling fans, and both wrestlers (especially Styles) want to work with each other. Because of this, it's very likely that these two wrestlers will collide in the future.
