After a nine-year absence, CM Punk is shockingly back in WWE. While he said nothing about his time in AEW during his first Raw promo, his failures with Tony Khan's promotion aren't going to be forgotten soon. It's something that wrestling fans will always remember, and today, Punk's end in AEW was back in the news with a new revelation.

When Tony Khan fired CM Punk following his backstage brawl with Jack Perry at All In, he said he was following the recommendations of a disciplinary committee. We now know who led that committee which recommended Punk's dismissal. According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, it was none other than Bryan Danielson who head the disciplinary committee. It was a three-person committee, which included AEW General Counsel Chris Peck and an outside attorney, but why was Danielson chosen to lead it?

A source told Fightful that Danielson is an “appropriate moral compass who exemplifies objectivity." In his duties, he spoke to other members of the AEW roster, and it was difficult to come to his final decision, but he felt it was one that had to be made. Fightful didn't know exactly how the decision-making process went, but there was a belief that CM Punk knew Bryan Danielson played a part in his firing. Danielson is said to still be part of the committee, whose duty it is to fine wrestlers when need be.

This news came out following an intriguing tweet yesterday from Danielson, who wrote, "My dad always told me, 'The right thing is often the hardest thing to do.' It won’t always make the most money. It won’t always be the most popular. But it’s still the right thing." Fightful's report sure makes it looks like Danielson's tweet is referring to what he had to do about CM Punk.

Bryan Danielson has often been regarded as one of the nicest guys in wrestling. He's also one of the smartest, which is why AEW President Tony Khan has kept him close, making him part of his creative team, and going so far as to say he would trust Danielson above anyone else to book AEW if he couldn't be there.

With Bryan Danielson's full-time career winding down in the next year, look for him to take more of a backstage role in AEW. Danielson also worked on SmackDown's creative team when he was retired from WWE.
