Jade Cargill and Ruby Soho will go one-on-one on the January 5th edition of AEW Dynamite in a match to determine the first-ever TBS Champion.
Soho defeated Penelope Ford and Kris Statlander in the first and second rounds respectively, then booked her place in the final with a victory over Nyla Rose on the December 22 edition of Dynamite. Cargill's place in the AEW rankings earned her a bye, which meant she skipped straight to the second round where she defeated Red Velvet. Cargill secured her spot in the final by defeating Thunder Rosa at New Year's Smash on December 29 ... with a little help from Mercedes Martinez.
AEW announced that it would be activating a second title for its women's division on the October 6 edition of Dynamite, during which Tony Schiavone and Aubrey Edwards unveiled the belt itself. The TBS Championship will serve as a counterpart to the TNT Championship, and means that the company will have one title exclusive to each network on which its programming airs.

The final list of participants of AEW's inaugural TBS Women's Championship Tournament was officially announced during the October 22 edition of Rampage.
"It would mean everything. It would be validation first for the last 11 years of my career," Ruby Soho said on the prospect of her winning the TBS Championship during a recent interview with TheSportster's Denise Salcedo. "It's not just validation since I've been here. It's been validation since my previous time with WWE, my previous time in the independents working for 10 bucks and driving 12 hours and cars breaking down and things like that," she continued. "I have never held a title on national television in the time span that I've been a part of and I really feel this is something that making history and being the first and representing the title with honor and fighting tooth and nail, like really defend it, would mean the world to me and I am going to do absolutely everything that i can to be that first champion."
The finagural TBS Champion will be crowned during next week's AEW Dynamite -- the first of 2022 and the first to air on TBS.
