Over the last few years, NXT has emerged as an integral part of WWE's product. Initially, WWE debuted NXT as a game show in 2010, consisting of pros and rookies. But, it later became an actual wrestling show and has been serving as WWE's developmental territory ever since.

An NXT Championship was also introduced in 2012. Since NXT is a developmental territory, we have mostly seen young wrestlers win the gold. However, WWE has also featured some seasoned veterans on the show, as new signees usually spend some time in NXT even if they have lots of experience elsewhere. A handful of these wrestlers have even managed to win the NXT Title.
10 Drew McIntyre - 32 Years, 2 Months, 13 Days
Drew McIntyre's first run in WWE started off with promise, but he didn't have much success and was released in 2014. He then worked hard and made a name for himself in the independent circuit and Impact Wrestling.

This earned him another contract with WWE, as he was brought to NXT in 2017. He won the NXT Title from Bobby Roode just four months after his debut at the age of 32. He didn't hold the belt for long though, as he only had two successful title defenses, before losing the gold to Andrade.
9 Aleister Black - 32 Years, 10 Months, 19 Days
Aleister Black might not have achieved much on the WWE main roster, but he was quite successful during his time in NXT. After spending about 14 years on the independent circuit, he signed with WWE in 2016 and made his NXT debut in 2017.
Black wasted no time in impressing everyone with his wrestling skills. He was thus rewarded with an NXT Title win, which he won from Andrade at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans in 2018. He was 32 years old at the time and held on to the gold for 108 days.
8 Keith Lee - 35 Years, 7 Months, 23 Days
Keith Lee joined NXT in 2018. He gained recognition after his series of impressive matches with Dominik Dijakovic. 2020 was the breakout year for him, where he won both the NXT and the North American Championships, becoming the first man to hold both titles at the same time.
Lee was 35 when he won the NXT Title from Adam Cole at The Great American Bash. It seemed like he'd have a long and impressive title reign, but WWE rushed him to the main roster, and he held the gold for just 44 days.
7 Karrion Kross - 35 Years, 8 Months, 20 Days
Karrion Kross was formerly known as "Killer Kross" in Impact Wrestling, where he caught everyone's attention. He made his NXT debut in April 2020, alongside Scarlett.
He won the NXT Championship twice during his tenure. His 2nd title win came against Finn Balor at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver at the age of 35. Shortly after, he was brought on Raw, and he lost the belt to Samoa Joe.
6 Tommaso Ciampa - 36 Years, 4 Months, 6 Days
Tommaso Ciampa is among the greatest NXT wrestlers. He arrived in NXT in 2015 and was part of the famous tag team #DIY alongside Johnny Gargano. Ciampa went solo in 2018 and won the NXT Title later that year.
He held the title for an impressive 237 days before he was forced to vacate it due to an injury. He won the gold for a second time in 2021 when he was 36 years old. He lost the title to Bron Breakker and was promoted to the main roster soon after.
5 Shinsuke Nakamura - 36 Years. 9 Months, 9 Days
Shinsuke Nakamura arrived in WWE in the year 2016. He was almost 36 already, but WWE decided to keep him in NXT first, instead of sending him to the main roster directly like they did with AJ Styles.
He got success in NXT pretty quickly, as he won the NXT Title twice in 2016. He beat Samoa Joe for the title on both occasions, and both at the age of 36. His second NXT Title reign ended at the hands of Bobby Roode, after which Nakamura debuted on SmackDown.
4 Finn Balor - 39 Years, 1 Month, 14 Days
Finn Balor spent quite some time of his WWE career in NXT, as he had two distinct runs on the show. He made his NXT debut in 2014 and won the NXT Title in 2015. He had an impressive reign of 292 days, which ended at the hands of Samoa Joe. WWE drafted him to the Raw brand as part of the 2016 Draft, where he even became the inaugural Universal Champion.
However, he had to vacate the belt the next day due to an injury. His momentum was ruined, and his main roster run didn't go as well as planned. Thus, he returned to NXT in 2019 and won the belt for a second time in 2020 at the age of 39. This reign was 212 days long and was quite impressive as well. He lost the title to Karrion Kross, and went back to the main roster.
3 Robert Roode - 39 Years, 8 Months, 17 Days
Robert Roode had a very successful time in Impact Wrestling, where he spent 12 years. He was signed by WWE in 2016 and brought to NXT. In December 2016, Roode became the No. 1 Contender for the NXT Title.
He defeated Shinsuke Nakamura at TakeOver: San Antonio to win the belt. Despite being 39 years old, Roode had an impressively long reign of 202 days. He dropped the title to Drew McIntyre at TakeOver: Brooklyn 3, and made his main roster debut just three days later.
2 Dolph Ziggler - 41 Years, 7 Months, 9 Days
Dolph Ziggler was a WWE veteran, so it was very surprising when he turned up on NXT 2.0 during a segment with Bron Breakker and Santos Escobar.

This wouldn't be the only surprise, as the 41-year-old veteran would go on to win the NXT Championship. He didn't hold the belt for long though, as he lost the gold back to Breakker in less than a month. He then disappeared from NXT and was recently released from the company.
1 Samoa Joe - 42 Years, 5 Months, 5 Days
The oldest wrestler to win the NXT Championship is Samoa Joe, who also holds the record for winning the NXT Title the most number of times. He won the belt three times, out of which two wins came in 2016.

After a main roster run full of injury disruptions, WWE decided to bring Samoa Joe back to NXT in 2021. He defeated Karrion Kross to win the gold for the third time at the age of 42. However, he got injured once again and vacated the belt, after which he was soon let go by WWE.
